I don't have many fears, but if anything is going to strike fear into me it's a super charged sexually transmitted disease.

Unfortunately, that's a thing.

'Super-gonorrhoea' is reportedly spreading across the UK and is at risk of being untreatable.

The British Association for Sexual Health and HIV alerted the UK's sexual health clinics in September. Now, clinics are being urged to study cases of the high level drug resistant gonorrhoea and trace people's sexual partners who have the bug, as the amount of people diagnosed with has risen.

Public Health England (PHE) have acknowledged the fact that the spread of the STD is being contained, but only to 'limited success'.

British Association for Sexual Health and HIV president, Dr Elizabeth Carlin, told the BBC: "The spread of high level azithromycin-resistant gonorrhoea is a huge concern and it is essential that every effort is made to contain further spread. Failure to respond appropriately will jeopardise our ability to treat gonorrhoea effectively and will lead to poorer health outcomes for individuals and society as a whole."

The disease can cause infertility and is at risk of becoming untreatable if the one remaining fully effective antibiotic fails, experts have said.

It was first detected last year in Leeds but has now spread further across the North of England, with cases being reported in patients from Macclesfield, Oldham and Scunthorpe.
