Footballer Aaron Lennon has reportedly been detained under the Mental Health.

The England international negotiated with police offers for 20 minutes who had been called to an area in Salford on Sunday afternoon, reports the Daily Mail.

The police allegedly found Lennon on a busy road near the M602 motorway.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Police were called at around 4.35pm on Sunday, April 30, 2017 to reports of a concern for the welfare of a man. Officers attended and a 30-year-old man was detained under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act and was taken to hospital for assessment."

His club Everton released a statement Tuesday saying: "Aaron Lennon is currently receiving care and treatment for a stress-related illness. The club is supporting him through this and his family has appealed for privacy at this time."

30-year-old Lennon joined Everton permanently from Tottenham on the final day of the transfer window in a £4 million deal. He had previously played for Leeds United.

He has made just 13 appearances for the Toffees this season.

He last played in a 0-0 draw against Middlesbrough on February 11.

1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem in any given year, yet too many people are made to feel isolated, ashamed and worthless because of their mental health. Time to Change, the anti-stigma campaign run by Mind and Rethink Mental Illness, is a growing movement of people changing how we all think and act about mental health problems. At TheLADbible we're trying to gather the biggest picture of mental health for young people and we're working with a range of charities so that our findings can help them. Filling in this poll will help us find out the extent of the problem.
