Builder Tackles Moped Thugs Who Tried To Rob Elderly Couple

Not all superheroes wear capes.

Not all superheroes wear capes and masks. Or pants outside their trousers. Some of them are just regular people in regular clothes.

Take Alan Bujor, for example. The 24 year-old builder was on site in Mitcham, southwest London when he saw a pair of bikers with crowbars trying to rob a couple in their 80s.

Acting first and thinking second, the Romanian-born labourer, who lives in Harrow, northwest London, grabbed a shovel and swung at one of the drivers.

When he fell, the other rider fled and Bujor clung to the fallen man, pinning him until the police arrived a few minutes later, The Sun reports.

"I was doing my job when I saw these guys attacking this Asian couple," Bujor told the newspaper.

"The two had crowbars and were hitting the man and trying to snatch the jewellery the woman was wearing. She and her husband were screaming and shouting for help, so I just went in. If you see anyone in trouble then you should help out.

"I hit one with a shovel a couple of times and I think he must have been shocked. The guy who was with him escaped on the scooter so I threw myself on the other one."

The man he captured, Delon Reason, 30, is due before Camberwell Green magistrates court today, accused of attempted robbery, assault by beating and possession of an offensive weapon.

While Bujor is certainly a hero, it was only after he acted that he thought about what could have happened had it all gone wrong.

"It was only later that I thought they could have had acid or knives and that made me shiver," he said. "I did what anyone would have done. I'm just glad the couple are OK."

Mopeds have been used by gangs in a spate of attacks throughout the UK recently, from phone robberies and and bag snatches to acid attacks. In the 12 months to June 2017, the Metropolitan police recorded 16,158 thefts by people using mopeds.

So while we can't recommend getting involved if a similar situation arises, Bujor should certainly be commended for his actions. Perhaps Marvel could even start a new comic book or movie franchise based off of his heroics.
