It's barbecue season - not that you'd know it by the state of the British weather. But, on that odd day when the sun shines, it's time to crack open a cold one with the boys and whack some meat on the barbie.

However, you may now need to go and get a bigger barbecue as Morrison's has launched the 'daddy of all burgers', right in time for Father's Day.

And, if money is tight, then you'll be pleased to know, it only costs £3. Admittedly, the burger buns will cost an additional 50p, and anything else you want to stack in between the bread will also have to be bought separately, but still it's a bloody good deal.

The supersize burger weighs in at 1lb (454g), the same as a football, and will be freshly made in store by the supermarket's own butchers.

However, you'll have to be quick, it's only going to be in store until Sunday.

The beef is seasoned with paprika, sage and parsley, and is recommended by the pros to be cooked on a griddle, frying pan, or BBQ for four minutes on each side.

Morrisons' butchery expert Paul Robinson said: "All of our butchers will be making these mammoth burgers by hand.

"We think many dads will aim to eat the whole thing, but if their eyes are bigger than their belly, they can always share with the family."

There is a wealth of cheap, yet high quality, meat and food to be enjoyed this summer thanks to the supermarket battle.

Weighing in with some big efforts is Aldi. Last month, it launched an 18-inch Tomahawk steak onto its shelves, and it costs just £12.99 - that's some £14 cheaper than Waitrose.

The Tomahawk, named after the axe that it resembles, is a cut of rib-eye beef that includes the rib bone, which, when cooked, adds flavour and succulence to the meat.

If you fancy flashing the cash a little more, than why not buy Aldi's £100 pizza oven for your summer outdoor adventures.

And when you've finished it all off you can go and grab those cold ones and relax in the £299 hot tub which the German supermarket is also selling.

Stick a fork in me, I'm done.
