A homeless woman who was found slumped outside an abandoned shop on Cleethorpe Road in Grimsby has died after she was prevented from receiving the necessary medical help.

An inquest has heard that three men threatened the paramedics that were trying to reach her.

Donna Marie Sharp's life ended tragically after mixing a cocktail of drugs and alcohol, and she was found in the shop's doorway by her aunt in July of last year.

The combination of substances included morphine, codeine, diazepam, and dihydrocodeine. The amount of alcohol in her blood equalled that of being three times over the drink drive limit.

The total concoction resulted in Donna dying of a cardiac respiratory arrest.

Humberside Police, according to the Grimsby Telegraph, were called and arrested three men, two aged 36 and one aged 49, on suspicion of supplying drugs.

The Grimsby and North Lincolnshire assistant coroner, Mark Kendal, concluded that the death was accidental due to the large consumption of drugs and alcohol.

Although, he added, that the drugs, individually, were not fatal, cumulatively, alongside heavy drinking, it all contributed to her death in July 2016.

Kendal said that she 'had a long history of addiction to drink and, in later years, to drugs'. He also told of how her separation from her parents, at just 12-years-old, had a significant impact on her. On top of this, Donna had three kids, all of whom she lost due to her addictions.

Kendal said: "Despite the best efforts of her family, it seems nothing could be done for her. She was assisted by her aunt, Michelle Miles, to find accommodation, but the attempt was unsuccessful and she agreed to spend the night in a doorway with someone she may have known."

Consultant pathologist Dr Martin Peters said: "Threatening behaviour by men in her presence prevented CPR. Police came and they were arrested."

Her aunt, Ms Miles, contradicted this statement, however, and said that she had not seen any men preventing her from being treated.

Instead, Miles spoke of how she had constantly battled to find her niece accommodation, but on July 5 said that Donna was approached by a man in the street and she went off with him after he offered to look after her.

PC Simon Holmes, of Humberside Police, said that three men were arrested and drugs were recovered, but no charges were laid in relation to the events that happened at the property.

"We were trying to find if the three people were involved in the supply of drugs to Donna," he said. "But there was no evidence to substantiate that."

He added he was not aware of any difficulties the paramedics may have had in getting to the patient.

Last year, LADbible reported on the 'fail' of the war on drugs. Research by the British Medical Journal (BMJ) showed less-than-satisfactory findings despite the billions spent in attempting to stem the relentless tide of illegal pills, powders and plants breaching British shores.
