Cadbury Launches Freddo Hot Chocolate And We Want It Now

Cadbury Launches Freddo Hot Chocolate And We Want It Now

I'll take two cups please...

It was a standard element of any Year Six school disco: a Freddo from the tuck shop. In the year 2000, in between busting a move to 'Who Let The Dogs Out', 'Rock DJ' and 'Reach', we'd wolf a bar of the classic 10p chocolate bar down our throats.

During our education, we learned all about percentage change, price inflation and interest rates. But let's be honest: we never really had a clue how that would affect us later in life.

That was until nostalgic millennials one day noticed the price of Freddos had gone up. They now stand at 30p, and it was enough to prompt righteous outrage (according to vouchercloud.com they should only be 15p). Despite that, we continue to love them.

Well now, we can love them that little bit more. Freddo hot chocolate is a thing, and it's subtly made its way onto British supermarket shelves.

The price for a 175g packet of Freddo hot chocolate is £1.50. As far as social media is concerned, it's worth every penny...

However, in amongst all the excitement, a moment of realisation struck. Wasn't a Freddo bar just a frog-shaped Dairy Milk?

The answer, of course, is yes. And that's been reflected in the ingredients list - a regular Cadbury Drinking Chocolate contains sugar, cocoa powder, salt and flavouring. A Freddo Drinking Chocolate contains - you guessed it - sugar, cocoa powder, salt and flavouring.

The only difference is the price. Asda sell the regular stuff at £2.99 for a 500g packet (59.8p for 100g), whereas the Freddo version is £1.50 for 175g - that's 85.1p for 100g.

It just goes to show sometimes you really do just pay for a novelty.

And if the hot chocolate follows suit with the Freddo chocolate bars then we can only expect further price rises.

Yet we'll probably still buy it.
