Twenty-three-year-old Ria Cooper was born as a male, but became Britain's youngest ever sex swap patient at the age of 15.

Doctors backed her belief she was trapped in a girl's body, the Mirror reports, but she later transitioned back to a boy.

She's now undergoing her third sex change, as she doesn't feel right as Brad (her original name).

At the age of 15, Ria was given blockers to stop her going through puberty, along with female hormones that were injected into her body to stop the growth of facial hair and trigger the formation of breasts, says the Mirror.

However, she ended this treatment after her 18th birthday as she struggled with her new identity, transitioning into a man.

She feared she'd never be accepted as a woman, which made her want to switch back, though people reportedly just thought she had been too young to know what she actually wanted.

Five years after her second switch, she's now giving it another go as a woman, making this her third change in gender identity.

"I've always known I was female - it was everyone else who was confused, not me. I was wearing make-up and heels at the age of 12, there was no question," she said. "But I felt under so much pressure from society that six years later I caved in. I was torn. I knew exactly who I was, but I also wanted to conform and be 'normal'.

"Only now I realise that made me even more unhappy. Now I'm going to be me - and I hope I will finally be happy."

Having been criticised by people who claim she's wasting the NHS' money, she's vowed to pay for her own surgery. So far she's paid £5,000 to get her dream 34EE breasts, and has to wait until next year for her genital transformation operation.

She now hopes that once she's settled into her third identity she will finally find love, get wed and have kids. Though she knows it's not going to be easy.

"One reason I switched back to being male was because I was worried I'd never find love as Ria," she said. "My past was always just too much for men to take on board when I transitioned the first time.

"They'd fall in love with me, knowing my background - but as soon as their friends found out, I'd be dumped. I began to doubt I would ever feel happy again."

She continued: "But I'm older and wiser now and know exactly who I am. I'm Ria and I'm a woman. There's no turning back.

"If I can find a man who accepts that and loves me for who I am, that's perfect. If not, I'd still like to be a mum."

After abuse and mental health problems following the confusing time between the age of 15 and 18, Ria is now very happy and looking forward to her future.
