British accents are a constant cause of debate, as there are always differing opinions over which are nice and which are off-putting.
In America, there seems to be the perception that all Brits are posh, wear top hats, have tea in a cup and saucer and are best mates with Mary Poppins. Au contraire. If you travelled up and down the country, you'd be stumped by the unfathomable nature of the Brummy, Scouse, Geordie, Yorkshire, Manc and Essex accents.

With that being said, someone has tried to rank the accents from the UK's 51 cities, in terms of sexiness.
It's worth noting that the list has been composed by an inhabitant of Manchester, and they've ranked the Manc accent at number one. Basically it's the equivalent of a Nursery kid hosting a Play Dough sculpting competition and then declaring them self the winner.
Unfortunately, the Birmingham accent occupied the last spot, according to this blog. The bottom 10 was as follows:
- Birmingham
- Bristol
- Hull
- Sheffield
- Wolverhampton
- Wakefield
- Norwich
- St Albans
- Salisbury
- Southampton
- Truro
Any complaints? If I'm honest, I'm not sure the list has the best credibility. Newcastle and Sunderland are seven places apart - are they really that different?

Falling in the midriff, places like Liverpool, Stoke-on-Trent and Preston were found to have mediocre accents. It's odd to see the sharp Scouse accent in the middle of the list, as usually people will either have it right at the bottom, or right at the top.
Lovin' Manchester ranked the top 10 as:
- Hereford
- Lichfield
- Oxford
- Nottingham
- Ripon
- Salford
- Gloucester
- Cambridge
- London
- Manchester
Naturally there was a mixed reaction on Twitter.
Bullshit, or correct?
