Here's Why The Assumptions Of This Picture Are Wrong

Here's Why The Assumptions Of This Picture Are Wrong

Many images are circling around the internet following the incident police are treating as a terrorist attack in London, yesterday.

Photographs show pedestrians on the ground after a car mounted the curb on Westminster Bridge. Usually, the phrase 'a picture speaks a thousand words' is fitting. However, one image has sadly been taken hugely out of context.

People took to social media to show their support for those involved, as well as gaining easy access to footage and photographs.

One individual found an image which shows an injured person being treated on the floor, as members of the public stand around the casualty and a woman walks by.

The Twitter account user, whose bio reads, 'Proud TEXAN and AMERICAN patriot #2a #prolife #Trump2016#TrumpPence16 Fuck Islam and PC. Don't mess with Texas!' (make of that what you will), decided to focus on the woman in the headscarf.

Now, it's instantly obvious that 'Texas Lone Star' has next to no clue as to what's going on. The user blatantly didn't take the picture, and was presumably not at the scene.

Firstly, he labels the casualty on the floor as male, when it could be a female, and knows nothing about what the woman walking by might be doing.

People quickly pointed out his ignorance and naivety, directing him to the distressed, confused and scared expression on her face.

Furthermore, there's no evidence to support the user's claims that the person on the floor is dying.

One scroll through the user's Twitter tells you all you need to know, really. Anti-Islamic messages, comparisons between Christians and Muslims, and hate towards London's mayor, Sadiq Khan.

There's no way of knowing the truth about this image, and so taking it out of context, or making assumptions about it is wrong.
