Angry Bull Gores 12 People At Festival In Peru

What did they expect?

You've probably seen videos of bullfighting. It's that 'sport' that revolves around antagonising a helpless animal into doing something it shouldn't be doing... otherwise known as animal cruelty.

Bullfighters generally wind up a bull so much that it reacts aggressively by running at them, only for them to move out of the way to cheers and applause from the crowd. There's more involved - and it gets more batshit the more you read about it - but ultimately a typical fight ends up with the animal being killed by a matador with a sword. Erm, ok.

The constant taunting of the animals makes them frustrated and even more angry, which sometimes can lead to disaster.

Now, we wouldn't go so far as to use words like 'karma' or 'deserved when it comes to the idea of a bullfighter getting gored by a bull, but what else would you genuinely expect to happen?

On this occasion it was spectators who were left running, as an angry bull charged at them in Peru during the Jala Toro festival.

Ropes were attached to the animal's horns, which were tugged at by the crowd, who had previously been winding him up.

Luckily no one was killed in the incident, though a reported 12 people were injured.

"Poke a bear or tease a bull. Either way you're just asking for trouble. And if you get hurt, you deserve it," one commented wrote on the video.

In the grand scheme of things these people got off lightly, really.

A 23-year-old bullfighter suffered a much worse fate when he was gored through his face during his debut tournament.

Daniel García Navarrete was fighting a 1,000lb bull in Las Ventas, Madrid, in front of 10,000 spectators when he was pierced several times, reports the Mail.

The attack was caught on camera as the audience were powerless to stop what was happening. This short clip shows some of the incident.

The full footage shows the bullfighter being flipped in the air and thrown to the ground. The bull then repeatedly gores him as a screaming crowd can be heard in the background.

Navarrete was rushed to hospital where doctors found that he'd been pierced four times by the bull. The horns had gone through his neck twice and another two times through his jaw.

One of the wounds was eight inches deep, while another (six inches deep) went through the roof of his mouth and the base of his tongue.

He was also left with severed nerves, a fractured collarbone and extensive muscle damage. Doctors said he was lucky to be alive.

The sport not only puts the bulls in danger, but also the fighters. So let's give it a rest, shall we?
