There was a time when he, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr couldn't go anywhere without being mobbed by thousands of screaming fans.

In fact, fans were known to faint at their gigs, such was the magnitude of The Beatles' success. But it seems as if those days are behind McCartney.

John Lennon and George Harrison both passed away, in 1980 and 2001 respectively, leaving McCartney to go on as the main Beatle, as Ringo Starr now and again teetered behind him. However, during a time when music from the previous century is becoming less and less popular, it's more of a safe bet for Macca that he can go for a journey without having someone trying to steal his hair.

He was spotted sitting alone on a train coming out of London - without a bodyguard or anyone else in sight.

The 75-year-old reportedly got on the Kings Cross to Hastings train on his own and took up a seat in first class.

Those around him claim he passed the time by looking at his phone - an old-school Nokia - and reading the paper.

In total about four or five people approached him for pictures and a chat.

It doesn't seem like much, but for a guy who has all those accolades to his name, as well as an unfathomable amount of money in the bank, it's a fairly big deal.

Let's not beat around the bush, most of us would be getting private helicopters for such journeys. Or if we had to get the train we'd make sure there was a huge party with us, reading out newspaper headlines for us, making sure people come nowhere near us.
