Here's How Many Pints Of Guinness Will Be Sold Today

Loads.

Today is a day of many things. Those with distant Irish relations come together to pretend like their blood is green, despite it only being their mum's, sister's, babysitter's dad's dog that is Irish. There's also those people that will clad themselves in hats, glasses and all the rest of it to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

Oh, and there's Guinness. Loads of it.

People rarely care about where you're from, what you're about, how you're dressed or what shit you're chatting, because the common ground is always the same - a pint of the good stuff.

In every pub there'll be the ones who don't actually like the tipple, but still power through because it's Paddy's day, grimacing with every swig. There will also be those that top it up with a splash of blackcurrant juice, as well as those who genuinely love it enough to drink enough to have them in bed by 8pm.

More than 70 million people get together to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, the national holiday that's celebrated in more countries around the world than any other, meaning there's a lot of Guinness being consumed.

Guinness, the iconic black and white stout, has an intrinsic link to St. Patrick's Day. Both are steeped in heritage, but more importantly Guinness captures the true spirit of the day through the simple act of getting together with friends and raising a glass to the shared values of celebration, pride and friendship. And intoxication, of course.

The pint has to be perfect, so that's why we always hope there's not an incompetent member of staff tasked with pouring yours. The perfect pour takes approximately 119.53 seconds, according to Guinness, and should be served at exactly 42.8F/ 6C. Get your thermometers out, LADs.

The chances are that given the rush to get a pint of it today and later tonight, staff won't be fucking about making sure it's at the right temperature and timing how long it takes, which is a shame. However, the sheer volume of the stuff they're selling will excuse them.

Sold in over 150 countries around the world, an estimated 14 million pints are sold on St. Patrick's Day. At least 30 percent of all Guinness is sold in Africa, and Guinness consumed in Africa is called Foreign Extra Stout. It's essentially the same beer that Guinness began exporting to the far reaches of the British Empire in the early 19th century.

From the company's humble beginnings in 1759, when Arthur Guinness signed a 9,000-year lease on the St. James's Gate Brewery in Dublin, Ireland, to this very day, Guinness is committed to its worldwide mission to brew distinctive beer of the most outstanding quality, fuelled by a spirit of innovation.

Happy Paddy's day, one and all.
