The reasons for university being a great time are different for everyone. However, for most, the feeling of fleeing the nest and being able to be independent is a common positive.

It all seems great for a few days until you realise your mum isn't there to do your washing, there's kebabs stinking out your room and that room is in fact a small box in which there's very little to do.

Uni accommodation is made to be that way - small, affordable and simple. There's no point expecting some kind of bachelor pad; you ought to lower your expectations to somewhere around the prison cell level.

Still, it is yours to do what you wish with. It's just a shame that no one can ever be arsed doing anything with it.

Despite this, two American students decided to give their dorm a makeover to make their living quarters look a bit more luxurious.

Students Skylar and Adeline met online prior to their studies, and decided to move in together and spruce up their accommodation at Sherry Hall, Texas State University.

According to Daily Mail they spent $2,400 (£1,877) to completely change the look of the room.

With the help of friends and relatives, the pair moved in new beds with customised headboards, white dressers, a mini-fridge, faux-marble desks and a TV set.

The amateur interior designers also decked the dorm out in new wallpaper.

"We had to come to the room prepared with a lot of vision and just cross our fingers that it would work. We were lucky it did," Sheila, Skyler's mother, told the Daily Mail.

They had to get six friends to help them transform the room, but the end result looks worth it.
