Locals Convinced Deformed Lamb Was 'Sent By The Devil'

They say it's 'half-human, half-beast'.

For some bizarre reason we are infinitely interested in weird things. Even if it's really disgusting, we just want to have a look at it, or learn more, just because it's out of the ordinary.

If you scroll through Facebook and someone has shared a video of an injury, or of something oddly disgusting, we stop and take a look. We continually exclaimed 'ew', and 'Jesus Christ', yet carry on watching it, because why not?

This is no different, really. It's a deformed lamb, essentially.

Locals in Lady Frere in Eastern Province, South Africa have reportedly feared this animal since it was born, labelling it half-human, half-beast and claiming it was 'sent by the devil'.

It does look a bit human-like, but leaning towards the middle-aged man who's sunbathed too much in Ibiza, drank too much beer and passed out on the beach.

Those living in the village where the lamb was born claim a combination of bestiality and witchcraft led to its existence, and even got people to 'test it' - God knows what for.

"We can confirm this not a hoax photo, but that the severely deformed lamb was born by a sheep in Lady Frere this week, which at a glance resembles a human form," Dr Lubabalo Mrwebi, Chief Director of Veterinary Services, said.

He continued: "It is not, however, human, but a deformed stillborn lamb sired by a sheep and was subsequently infected by a Rift Valley Fever at an early stage of its pregnancy.

"It is worth noting that a sheep has 28 pairs of chromosomes while humans have 23 pairs which is important in dispelling the myth that a union of a sheep ovum and a human sperm can lead to a development of a viable life form.

"The deformed lamb exhibits signs that are consistent with an early foetal development that went wrong as a result of a viral infection and nothing more."

So there you have it, people of Lady Frere: not a drunk, shrivelled Ibiza party-man.

At the time the lamb was conceived - which would have been either December 2016 or January 2017 - there would have been a lot of rainfall in the area, bringing midges and mosquitoes which carry the RVF virus.

The virus, which infects the sheep's blood, found its way via 'the maternal blood into the uterus and the foetus', during a critical stage of pregnancy.

"The elders, when they saw it, said it was sent by the devil and was born after a coupling between a man and a sheep and then there was panic," Mrwebi said. "Many people are afraid and will not be happy until it is burned."
