An amazing video shows a Boeing 787 Dreamliner leaving behind a huge vapour trail as it flies over Russia.
The clip was filmed by a passenger on board another plane and shows the massive contrail at 33,000ft in the sky.

It looks like something out of sci-fi film, but it's perfectly normal, apparently. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if aliens ever make their presence known to us using a similar technique.

The person who filmed the clip uploaded it with the caption: "This contrail looks dark against the rising sun."

I think he's missed a trick, he should have labeled it: "The aliens are coming."

The clip then continues with the trail left behind, slowly expanding, and looking sort of ominous. At the end of the clip, you can see the vapour lingering on as the sky grows dark.

Contrails are formed when the hot exhaust vapours from the jet's engine hits the atmosphere, which at such a high altitude has lower vapour pressure and temperature than the exhaust fumes. Sometimes ice is also formed in the trails.

Occasionally, patterns can be made in clouds when the air pressure created by the plane 'cuts' through clouds and parts the vapours. Pretty cool, eh?
