Remember first signing up to Twitter and thinking you'd be able to connect with all your favourite celebrities and probably end up going out on the piss with at least two?

And then the penny dropped, didn't it? That they get flooded with tweets every day and even if they somehow do see yours, they still don't care. No? Just me?

Well, one fella who tweeted one of his favourite celebrities not only got a response, but ended up getting a little social media side-line that earns him about five grand a year.

Way back in 2013 Jerome Billingham replied to one of Kim Kardashian's posts asking: "Do you notice your fans? I love you loads! #hotlove"

Kim did notice and replied: "Love you too!"

And within a week Jerome, now 25, racked up thousands of new followers - he now has over half a million across two accounts - and has been inundated with free clothes and offers of promo work.

Jerome, who worked packing laundry at the time he sent the tweet, said: "I was doing a 6am shift at my work in a factory and I'd seen she'd tweeted something, I can't even remember what she tweeted now, but I just replied to ask if she ever noticed her fans.

"I didn't think anything of it and was walking to work and then my phone just started going ping ping ping and going crazy.

"I thought 'what the hell's happened' and actually wondered if there had been a technological fault with my phone but then I saw hundreds and thousands of replies saying 'congratulations' and 'well done son'.

"In the space of a week I gained 20,000 followers and to start off with I only had a couple of hundred.

"I've now got 286,600 and I also have another account that I use as a backup and I have another 274,000 on there.

"In total I have more than half a million followers and most of them were just from that one reply. It literally didn't stop for weeks."

As well as free clothes, Jerome says he gets free entry into clubs and his drinks paid for all night, in return for posting a couple of tweets.

Jammy Jerome, who now works for a holiday company, is hoping he'll be able to make social media his full-time job soon.

He said: "Start up companies would sent me gear for me to take selfies in and tweet it. It was crazy. I did campaigns for E4's Tattoo Fixers, Primark's Christmas range, they'd sent me stuff and pay me almost £100 a tweet.

"I do that much on Twitter now I can barely keep up with it all. Considering I still live at home with my mum and stepdad, I feel it's not bad going."

He now says memes about his original tweet continue to mean he gains hundreds of followers every day.

Sound, well, I'm just off to Twitter to bombard Kim with until she replies.
