When you're getting busy in the bedroom, the last thing you want is to be interrupted by a gang of hungry people who want to drag you out and cook you in a stir fry.

But that's exactly what happened to one 20ft, female python and her comparatively tiny lover - also a python - when they were shacked up in their hollow tree last Saturday.

Villagers on the Malaysian island of Borneo found the pair inside a fallen tree while they were on a hunting trip last Saturday. Their suspicions were aroused when they heard strange noises coming from inside the tree.

Upon further investigation, the group were delighted to find the giant snake and her miniscule mate, and got to work on killing the animals before transporting them back to the village for a feast.

Prepared according to local custom, python is considered a delicacy grilled over a fire or fried in a pan with vegetables then eaten with rice.

Thrilled Tinsung Ujang, 60, who found the pair, said villagers in the town of Bintulu near the Kelawit River would feast on the meat for days.

He said: "I looked down into the hole in the wood and was surprised to see the female mating with a smaller male snake.

"We had to split the timber to reach them and it was difficult to remove the snakes because of their size and the position. They were locked together."

He continued: "I was even more surprised because I have never seen snakes mating before and never seen a giant python that was more than five metres long like this. The male python was quite small.

"It was an amazing occurrence and I proceeded to shoot the two reptiles because for our community it is an exotic dish that is also our favourite dish."

Tinsung said that when he returned to town with the pythons on the back of a pick-up truck, he was met with cheers of glee from his fellow villagers.

"The snake meat was then divided and its share was distributed equally to villagers and nearby farm workers," he added.

Not exactly the way you'd ideally want a steamy session to end, but a meal for the village all the same.
