A monkey in India has been given the animal kingdom's equivalent of a lifetime sentence, having been moved into his own cage after biting more than 250 people - and also killing one, according to IANS.

The monkey, called Kalua, is a native of Mirzapur district in Uttar Pradesh, but he has now been taken in by the Kanpur Zoo, where he will remain behind bars for the rest of his life.

According to reports, Kalua was a pet monkey belonging to a local occultist, who would regularly give him liquor to drink.

After this continued for a period of time, the six-year-old monkey went on to become an alcoholic - having become dependent on the booze it was used to being fed.

When its owner died, Kalua obviously stopped being given alcohol, and in turn he grew aggressive.

In fact, the creature went on a biting spree in Mirzapur, prompting forest and zoo teams to be called in to catch him.

After zoo staff found there to be no improvement in Kalua's aggressive behaviour, they have now decided he must remain in his separate cage for the rest of his days.

Zoo doctor Mohd Nasir said: "We kept him in isolation for some months and then shifted him to a separate cage. There has been no change in his behaviour and he remains as aggressive as he was.

"It has been three years since he was brought here, but now it has been decided that he will remain in captivity all his life."

Nasir said if Kalua was set free, he would harm people wherever he went.

Of course, some monkeys are aggressive even without any booze - with a recent clip showing one jumping off a bike and dragging a small child along the ground.

Witnesses could be heard screaming as they saw the monkey come up to the little girl and grab her dress, dragging her part way down the narrow street.

The monkey then abandons the bike - which looks like a mini motorcycle - before pulling her along and eventually giving up and running away.

Thought to have been filmed in Tanjungsari Village, Indonesia, the footage shows the monkey approaching a bench where a woman and three young girls were sitting, before taking one of the children away.

Thankfully, another man ran into the shot and scared the monkey off and the toddler ran crying back to her mother.
