An adorable pooch who was slashed by his owner before being buried alive on a beach is now making her first steps to recovery.
Leialoha was found under the sand at O'ahu beach in Hawaii 'incredibly swollen, sunburnt and missing 90 percent of her fur' on Tuesday.
A passerby spotted a man burying the dog and alerted PAWS of Hawaii, an animal rescue group, which shared shocking photos of the dog with raw, sore skin.
Leialoha was rushed to Aloha Affordable Veterinary Services where she was treated for 'severe skin disease and dehydration'. Here vets discovered a number of lacerations to her front leg, prompting PAWS Hawaii to suspect that the man who buried her had also cut her.

Thankfully, after receiving treatment staff said they expected Leialoha to 'bounce back' and thanked everyone who was kind enough to donate money to pay for her treatment.
Now she's on the mend Leialoha is being looked after by 'foster mum' Amanda in a post shared on the PAWS Hawaii page Amanda said: "Earlier this week, I was scrolling FB, while the girls were getting haircuts and saw that there was a dog on the westside of Oahu that had been buried in the sand and been cut on her leg with a machete. She was badly sunburned, covered in sores, and missing most of her fur.
"My heart was broken, and I knew she needed us to foster her. Leialoha has come so far since Tuesday night. Initially, she would only leave her kennel to go to the bathroom. Last night, she came out, while we had friends over to see what was for dinner and has been liking being under the coffee table. She has a long way to go, but the worst is over. Say aloha to Leia!"

Alongside the post, Amanda shared two recent photos of Leialoha who, although still red and sore-looking, seems to have perked up a lot.
The post has been flooded with well wishes for Leialoha and praise for Amanda and the team at PAWS Hawaii.
Here's hoping little Leialoha makes a speedy recovery.
