Terrifying video footage has emerged that shows an Indian forest ranger being strangled by a huge python after posing for photos with the snake around his neck and shoulders.

Sanjoy Dutta and his team of forest officers had rescued the 10-metre-long python in Jalpaiguri district, Western Bengal, in front of a crowd of people. Mr Dutta then put the snake around his shoulders and allowed those gathered to take a few photos of him with it.

However, the snake continued to try to constrict him around the neck, eventually succeeding and leaving Mr Dutta feeling lucky to escape with his life.

Once the snake began to attempt to cut off Dutta's breathing he grasped to loosen the snake's grip and another ranger tried to pull the snake's tail and remove it from him.

People in the crowd can be heard screaming in the video footage once they realised the dangerous position that the huge serpent has Mr Dutta in.

However, Dutta eventually escaped from the grip of the snake and the snake was safely released back into the forest.

This isn't the first incident of this kind to happen in India in recent times. Back in April a snake charmer was also strangled by another python. The incident took place in the Uttar Pradesh area of Mau.

Once again, the snake charmer wrapped the snake around his neck, and once again the python objected to the idea and tried to strangle him by cutting off the blood and air supply to his head.

The video footage of the snake charmer getting strangled shows him becoming increasingly terrified and distressed, however, a lot of the people who were there to watch the act that he was performing clearly thought that it was all part of the show. It definitely wasn't.

After some of those present realised that he was genuinely in danger of death, they intervened to try to remove him from the snake's constriction.

It eventually took three people to release him from the clutches of the giant snake. He was then taken a nearby hospital where he was treated for his injuries

Just last week, in Indonesia, a woman had to be cut out of a 27ft long python after it ate her alive.

54-ear-old Wa Tiba went off to do some gardening and was not seen again until her children became concerned and started the search for her.

The search party found a python that was unable to move, and cut it open to find the body of Tiba.

Police superintendent Agung Ramos from the Muna district Indonesian National Police said: ''Children and residents had been looking for Wa after she did not return home. Some items belonging to the victim - sandals, machete, and flashlights - were found but the victim was not there.

''The family then reported this to the police and the search reached its conclusion at 9am. Residents found a python that looked like it was unable to move. Residents then suspected the snake swallowed Wa Tiba.

''People took the snake into the village and started splitting the snake. The suspicions were true and there was a body intact inside the snake. Unfortunately, the victim was lifeless.''

Horrible stuff.
