It's the weekend before Christmas, which means it's probably about time you start thinking about getting your presents sorted.
And what could be better than a cat (apart from a dog)?

Kevin the cat is in need of a new home after he was left behind when his previous family moved house - in a less funny but more furry version of Home Alone.
Unlike his namesake Kevin McCallister, the feline was abandoned intentionally, and as such there wasn't a happy family reunion. Kevin the cat also didn't have loads of fun messing around with toys and burglars either.
Fortunately, a neighbour found the 11-year-old and took him to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home where he is now being looked after.
Rachel Saunders, Cattery Manager at Battersea, urged people not to abandon their pets.

According to the Metro, she said: "Here at Battersea we get hundreds of strays brought in every year and sadly a number of those are cats that have been left behind when their owners have moved away.
"We understand that people's circumstances change and they may no longer be able to care for their pet, but we urge anyone in that situation to bring their cat in to a rescue centre rather than leaving them to fend for themselves.
"Kevin is a very sweet cat with a playful side that belies his years. We would love to see him find a new home before the end of the year."
If you think you can provide the new home little Kev needs, then get in touch with the centre.

However, while a cat is a great present, it is worth pointing out that you should not gift a pet frivolously. Indeed, many of the pets that now reside in rescue shelters were abandoned by people who acquired them without fully appreciating the responsibility they had undertaken.
As such, you shouldn't be too deflated if you get in touch with the shelter and find that Kevin has been snapped up. There are countless more cats at rescue shelters across the world in need of a new home, though there's no guarantee they'll be as playful as Kevin. In fact, loads of them will be really arsey and indifferent - but that's all part of a cat's charm, right?
