Someone Quite Literally Found A Silver Fox Roaming In Their Garden

We know what you're thinking - Phillip Schofield has been doing some garden lurking. Well, you'd be wrong.

In this case the story's referring to a literal silver fox, a rare breed of the woodland mammal that's been spotted for the first time in 25 years.

The animal was seen roaming around a garden in Alsager, Cheshire, much to the surprise of the homeowner.

According to The Sun, the RSPCA became alerted to the fox after seeing a picture of it on a Facebook post.

Former RSPCA inspector Amanda Lovett - who now runs Mere Moggies Boarding - helped to rescue the animal before it was taken to the Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre in nearby Nantwich.

She said: "I was alerted to a post on a local Facebook group and it would seem the fox had been in the garden for most of the day.

"This was on Saturday, one of the biggest nights for fireworks, and we knew we had to get the fox to safety.

"I managed to safely catch the fox with a grasper and put him in a cat box before taking him to Stapeley Grange, who kindly stayed open later so he could be admitted.

"He was very quiet and seemed tame."

It looks like the animal's in safe hands. I'm sure they know what they're doing down at the Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre... except when it comes to names.

The fox has been nicknamed Shadow, when they could have named him after a whole host of silver-headed stars, like George (Clooney), John (Slattery), or even ol' Schofield himself. Wasted opportunity.

The RSPCA has claimed this is the first silver fox sighting in 25 years. Could it be that they're making a comeback? Not likely, as those involved in the fox's rescue reckon it's an escaped pet.

Manager of Stapeley, Grange Lee Stewart, explained: "It is likely that Shadow has been kept as a pet and he has either escaped, in which case we need to find his owners, or he has been dumped by his owners.

"He was checked over by our team of vets and was found to be in good health, just a little overweight. He is eating fine and seems to be doing well."

Here's hoping Shadow wasn't dumped by his owners and is returned to his home soon. If not, the charity will attempt to place him with a specialist owner.
