Heartbroken Dog Doesn't Understand Why His Owners Left Him At A Shelter

OK, somebody needs to go and get this little guy...

OK, get ready, because this story is about to tug right at your heartstrings.

Footage has emerged of a six-year-old dog being returned to an animal shelter - and the moment he realises he is being left behind will break your heart.

If anything positive is to come out of this, it must be that hopefully someone will see the poor pooch, head down to an animal shelter and pick up a dog that needs a good home. Either that or someone will realise that having a dog is a big commitment and not something that you can just throw away because it becomes inconvenient for you.

Basically, this dog was left behind because his owners felt they couldn't keep him because he didn't get on with a new puppy. As a result of that, the older dog had to go, and they dropped him off at the shelter and didn't give it a second thought.

The tragedy is that the dog obviously knows what is happening to him - they have an uncanny way of spotting these sorts of things - and is absolutely devastated that his owners have left him all alone.

Luckily, the dog - called Hunter - was taken in by the good folks at the Houston Humane Society in Texas. They look after him, and - by the sounds of it - have provided not only a home, but also a shoulder to cry on.

They posted the tragic video on their Facebook account, and said: "Ever wonder what a broken heart looks like? Well there you have it. Hunter was surrendered to the shelter yesterday because... ready for it? He didn't get along with their new puppy.

"Just when I think the human race couldn't disappoint me anymore. I found him in the corner of his kennel, too afraid to move. Sometimes I have to stop walking dogs and sit on the cold floor (the same cold floor these pups sit on) to give them some comfort that's it's not as scary as they think.

"If you're interested in adopting sweet Hunter, then head to the @houstonhumane and be this guy's hero."

The good news is, since Hunter's story became known, somebody came down to the shelter and adopted him, so he's got a second chance.

The shelter later posted: "We have exciting news! Our sweet Hunter has found his forever family! Thank you to everyone that took the time to share his story. And thank you especially to Larry, David, and Dolly for opening their hearts and home to Hunter"

Fantastic news. Let's hope he's happy in his new home for many years to come.
