A vet in the US has faced a backlash from animal lovers after selling baby kangaroos online.

The woman from Texas - who describes herself on Facebook as a 'small and exotic veterinarian' - posted an advert in which baby kangaroos can be seen wearing nappies.

The ad described the kangaroos as 'real cuddlers' and said 'these are some of the cutest little babies you have ever seen'.

The advert priced females at $5,000 (£3,940) and neutered males at $2,500 (£1,970).

A woman in the US has been slammed after selling baby kangaroos on Facebook.

It is legal to raise kangaroos in the state, despite the fact they are non-native species. The woman's Facebook page also says that she sells 'quality zebras and camels'.

However, regardless of the legality of it, animal rights activists have pointed out that kangaroos are not suitable to be kept as pets, as they cannot be house trained and need plenty of space to roam.

The marsupials can grow up to two metres tall and weigh up to 90kg, and as such, they can also pose a serious threat to humans.

Responding to the advert, one person wrote: "These poor animals should not be for sale, they belong in the wild and not raised in captivity! Poor sweet lil' ones!! Turn these People in!!!!"

Another added: "Poor poor little babies, I want to fly over there and bring them all back!"

A third said: "Can't be in the wild now... they are all bottle fed.. sadly they wouldn't adjust in the wild. At least from my understanding."

Animal-lovers pointed out that kangaroos shouldn't be kept as pets.

While the babies are undeniably cute, this poses a further risk, in that people who haven't the first idea about how to look after a kangaroo may be tempted to purchase one, before raising it in a completely unfit manner.

The woman has since removed the advert, but other animals remain up for sale on her Facebook page.

In April, a fisherman in Australia was far kinder to a kangaroo, after finding it stranded 800 metres out at sea.

The kangaroo - which was actually a walleroo - was discovered off the coast of Western Australia and the fishermen even performed CPR on the little fella.

GG Wildlife Rescue Inc revealed the details of the heroic rescue in a post on Facebook.

It read: "Got a call from Kim at Offshore Fishing, the boys had found a kangaroo floating near death off shore.

"These bloody legends knew quickly they had to help this big boy so one of the lads jumped in the water and tied a rope to the kangaroo and pulled him on board.

"They called me to meet them at the wharf and since they had nothing to contain him in they tied him to a wharf pole.

"Dr Ali from Sanford Veterinary Clinic and her husband raced down there and wrapped him up in a doona and raced him out to our rescue property.

"After removing his ropes we made sure he was OK and was steady on his feet as we watched him bounce away hopefully to recuperate."

How the devil he ended up out there in the first place is anyone's guess.
