Abbie Quinnen has praised NHS staff who cared for her after she was involved in an horrific accident earlier this year.

Twenty-four-year-old Abbie sustained third degree burns while she and Strictly Come Dancing star boyfriend AJ Pritchard attempted a social media hack which involved using a flaming piece of rope to cut a glass bottle, turning it into a vase.

Following the incident Abbie was rushed to Ealing Hospital's A&E department, before later being transferred to the specialist burns unit at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.

Abbie spent five nights in hospital and has had to undergo skin grafts.

The dancer has now thanked the staff who played a part in her recovery, branding them 'superheroes'.

Speaking to The Sun, Abbie said: "NHS staff saved me in so many ways. They are the closest things we have to superheroes. We are so lucky to have the NHS. I would be absolutely lost without them.

"My doctor gave me an amazing level of care and was so devoted to helping me, it felt unbelievable."

She went on to say she is still receiving treatment from a therapist to help with 'the mental side' of her injuries.

Abbie told the news outlet that she initially didn't want to talk about the accident, but was encouraged to by her surgeon.

"She told me how vital it was to heal," she explained.

"I followed her advice and it has really helped me. I still speak to someone once a week and I feel like I've come on in leaps and bounds emotionally and mentally as well as physically."

Heaping more praise on the hard-working and dedicated staff who looked after her, Abbie said: "They are the most caring people in the world and make a really big effort to understand what you have been through."

Before adding that she 'will never be able to thank them enough'.

Back in March, Abbie revealed the extent of her injuries and urged others to think before they copy any online tutorials.

Posting on Instagram, she said: "I am sad I have been absent in the last few weeks & haven't posted much with AJ, we so desperately wanted to be able to share daily vlogs with you all but unfortunately I have had an accident.

"Whilst we were attempting to create a glass bottle into a vase from following a YouTube tutorial, it went terrible wrong and it resulted in me incurring injuries [sic] & burns requiring continuous hospital treatment over the past 7 weeks.

"I really need you all to be so careful with what you're doing & if you are copying any YouTube videos. I will be ok! I love you all.

"I also want to say a massive thank you to the nurses and doctors at the Chelsea and Westminster burns unit for their incredible care & treatment."
