Must be pretty nerve-wracking to learn that someone's planning to replicate your likeness in statue form - is it going to look anything like you? No one's going to be a laugh stock here, are they? Let's face it, we're all scarred from the Ronaldo mishap.

So it's hard not to wonder how Elon Musk feels about the bronze statue which has been unveiled in New York City to mark his 50th birthday. We've certainly been left under no illusions as to how Twitter feels...

Taking to Twitter, investment website Public.com wrote: "Love or hate him, @elonmusk turns 50 today," before going on to add: "Because Elon's ambition (and maybe ego) is definitely not miniature, we dropped a life-sized statue on 14th St. and The High Line stairs in NYC. Go say hi."

The website is also giving away 100 mini 14-inch Elon statues - if you fancy being in with a chance to win one, you simply need to retweet their post.

If a mini-statue doesn't tickle your fancy, you could always fork out for a six-foot version - this is being auctioned off on eBay, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to First Generation Investors, a non-profit organisation in the US.

At the time of writing, bids were at over $2,000 with nearly 60 hopeful buyers. Place your bid here.

Back to the statue itself, one person who was clearly less than impressed with the idea wrote: "This is worse than if you took a s*** in the street." Blunt.

Another commented: "What a stunning likeness, so accurate and lifelike. Oh wait, that's not a statue of Gerald Ford?"

A third person added: "Thank you for installing this new public toilet," while another threatened: "I'm gonna wreck into it with my Tesla Model S Plaid Edition electric vehicle."

Some think the statue stands little chance of surviving 'til the end of the week, with one writing: "That statue is going to be in pieces before the end of the week."

Luckily, for Elon, his mum has a different way of commemorating his 50th - by posting a good ol' Twitter message to her birthday boy.

She wrote: "Happy birthday ⁦@elonmusk⁩.Thank you for this wonderful day 50 years ago. You have brought me great joy. Lots of love."

Thanking fans for the birthday messages, Elon himself wrote: "Thanks for all the happy birthday wishes!"
