Fans of the actor Jet Li have expressed their concern after recent reports on his health have emerged.

Fans have been posting well-wishes to Li, who has previously spoken about health problems.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Li, 55, has been battling hyperthyroidism and a heart condition.

Speaking in 2013, Li is reported to have said his doctor told him he could 'either continue making [action] films or spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair'.

The action star has previously sustained injuries to his legs and spine following on-set incidents, meaning he has been left with limited movements and struggles to stand for long periods of time, THR reports.

Li last appeared on screen in League of God in 2016, but has worked as a producer on a movie last year.

In 2016 the star rubbished claims his health was failing, telling the Singapore Press: "There is nothing to worry about my health. Recently, the web has been abuzz with news that I'm going to be wheelchair-bound. Even my friends are concerned and are asking how I am.

"I'm not sure which wheelchair company is putting out such news to sell more wheelchairs. Perhaps someone wants me to be a spokesman for their wheelchairs."

A recent photo of him was taken by a fan while in Tibet, according to Yahoo news, after it was posted online fans couldn't help but comment on Li's appearance with one saying it was 'so sad' to see the actor looking as he does.

However, a clip from December last year, shows Li looking well as he wishes his fans a happy new year.

Li, who is a devout Buddhist, has used his time away from the cameras to set up The One Foundation, a charity which focuses on disaster relief and children's welfare in China.

He is also a philanthropic ambassador for the Red Cross Society of China. He has previously said it's his charity work which has caused him to turn down film roles and not ill-health.
