I'm not crying, you're crying.

A&E doctors are basically heroes. They have to put up with massively difficult situations, unrealistic expectations, and still manage to do it with a good grace.

Dr Muir Wallace is one such hero - he went truly above and beyond one day at work by taking care of a sleeping baby for hours whilst the child's mum was away having tests.

A sick mum arrived at the accident and emergency department of Waikato Hospital in New Zealand and was on her own, so needed someone to help her out by looking after her baby whilst she went to get tested.

A few people volunteered to give her a helping hand, but the wee lad really took to Dr Wallace after they had their go at getting him to calm down.

Dr Wallace knew that the kid was tired - hence the fussiness - and simply continued to do his job whilst cuddling the small child, which is not only some pretty epic multitasking, but also really sweet.

One of Dr Wallace's colleagues, clinical nurse specialist Mike Haden-Jones managed to take a picture of the lovely scene and sent it out on Facebook, since then it has gone viral and been shared thousands of times around the world.

It was captioned: "This is a bit different to my usual posts but felt I had to share.

"The older of the two featured in this picture is Muir - one of our ED consultants. The little guy was here with his mum and badly needed a snooze.

"Sadly his mum was unwell and needed some tests.

"I believe several people tried but Muir was the only one able to settle him.

"So for about an hour the other day our consultant in charge (of the entire ED) was most definitely multi-tasking. Just an example of the small kindnesses that happen everyday that often go unnoticed.

"Thanks to mum for giving permission to post this - I hope you are soon feeling much better - Mike."

The hospital also shared the photo with the caption: "Sometimes all you need is a hug".

Followers of the hospital on Facebook have been quick to express their gratitude and pride in Dr Wallace. One commented: "You can tell he's an awesome man from that one act! Thank you Muir for caring for 2 people that day above and beyond what you would have to do,"

Another said: "This Dr is amazing. He looked after my son last night in kids place as he had a burnt face and needed anaesthetic to make sure his eye was ok,"

The world could do with a couple more like Dr Muir Wallace.
