'Avengers: Infinity War' Voted Best Movie Of 2018 So Far

The users of Ranker have voted for their favourite films of 2018 so far - there was a lot to choose from, but one stood out

Well, 2018 is just whizzing by, isn't it? It's almost the end of June, which means we're already almost halfway through the year, which is basically another six months closer to death than we were on 1 January.

Luckily, rather than anticipate their impending doom, most people just tend to start looking back at the things that have made their first half year better - which includes stuff like the movies they've seen. And perhapy unsurprisingly, Avengers: Infinity War has been voted the film of the year so far.

Yes, the users of Ranker have spoken, and the epic crossover of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has come up trumps.

And boy, has 2018 been a great year for films so far. There's also Black Panther, the awesome Marvel superhero flick that's been breaking records since its release, terrifying horror movie A Quiet Place, the nihilistic antics of Deadpool 2 and Steven Spielberg's epic Ready Player One.

In fact, those were the films, in order, that were voted in at numbers two to four. It was surely never in doubt that the number one choice would be the latest in Marvel's ongoing Avengers series.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the film follows on from 2012's The Avengers and 2015's Avengers: Age Of Ultron and is the 19th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

To date, it's taken more than $2 billion at the box office and is the fourth highest-grossing film of all-time, behind Avatar, Titantic and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

That's partly thanks to this guy who went to the cinema to see it 45 times. Which is ridiculous, but also kind of awesome.

Still, that could all be eclipsed by its sequel, the as-yet-untitled fourth Avengers movie. Not only could it could break all records at the box office - seriously, something's got to catch up with Avatar at some point, but its directors are warning it could be over three hours long.

"It's pretty long," said Joe Russo. "I don't want to say how long it is because people tend to get really excited. Also, I don't know that you can really call it a rough cut, it's more of an assembly."

While Avengers: Infinity War sits at the top of Ranker's list right now, it could all change, of course. There's still six months left, and with summer on the horizon, there could be plenty more blockbusters and/or critically acclaimed smaller films to knock it off its perch.

Watch this space.
