Bohemian Rhapsody's Success Means Queen Are Now Richer Than The Queen

The Queen is still fairly rich though, don't worry...

The rock band Queen are now richer than the actual Queen, partially thanks to the success of the film Bohemian Rhapsody.

Yep, you heard. Queen are now richer than THE Queen. Funny how these things turn out, isn't it?

The rock and rollers are now worth a combined £445m, whereas Queen Elizabeth II is only worth a measly £370m. Perhaps we should all have a whip round to help Lizzy out, eh?

Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon are the three remaining members of the band. Obviously lead singer Freddie Mercury died a good few years back.

The film about the life and career of Mercury, which bagged actor Rami Malek an Oscar for Best Actor earlier this year, has swelled the collective coffers of the ageing rockers dramatically, even to the point where they've now surpassed a sitting British monarch.

These figures have emerged ahead of the release of the Sunday Times Rich List, which should be available next weekend.

Malek took several acting awards for his role in the film - which spanned the period between Mercury joining the band and their iconic performance at Live Aid - despite the fact that it took something of a critical pasting upon its release.

In the end, it took more that £800m at the box office. For a film with a budget of £40m, that's not bad going by any standards.

According to the Sunday Times May and Taylor, who acted as consultants during the production of the film, trousered a cool £25m as a result of the positive financial performance of the film.

That could rise even more as a result of the success of the production. The drummer and guitarist could receive as much as £70m according to sources.

An insider reportedly told the Daily Mail: "They will be massively in profit. Because Queen Films made the film, they are quite high up the waterfall of money that cascades down from the film."

"This film was created and managed by Queen, which means they can protect their share. I would expect the studio to get around 50 per cent and the rest to go to the surviving Queen members and the Freddie Mercury estate."

As for the remaining member, John Deacon, he's a 25 per cent shareholder in Queen Productions Limited. So, he'll be fine too.

As for the Queen, she'll not be heading down to a food bank any time either. Let's not worry too much.
