Chris Hemsworth Stops Off To Give Hitchhiker A Lift In His Helicopter

The Hollywood star spotted the traveller on the side of the road and gave him a big surprise

When people tell you about their travelling stories there generally at least one about they had to hitch a ride from somewhere like Bangkok to Chiang Mai and how it opened their eyes to the incredible landscape and the wonderful people.

Sandwiched in between those are the parts where they were also mugged three times on the two week voyage of discovery and then had to ask mummy and daddy for some money.

If they told they got a picked up by Thor and had a ride on his chopper, you would probably say they'd been to one too many Full Moon parties.

But for one traveller this actually happened.

Musician Scott Hildebrand was standing by the side of the road in Brisbane, trying to catch a lift to Byron Bay and as luck would have it, so was the Ghostbuster and Men in Black star Chris Hemsworth, along with his best mate Luke Zocchi.

But the thrill-seeking Hollywood a-lister wasn't content with staying on four wheels and took the singer-songwriter on a chartered helicopter flight over to Byron Bay, where he lives.

What a stroke of luck.

Hemsworth filmed the whole thing and shared it to his 22 million Instagram followers and tells his stunned passenger he can 'just chip in for the gas - four grand' - what a card. I assume he was joking.

The American then asks the Aussie pair: "Are you guys flying to Byron - no way!"

Still in utter disbelief, he just sits there with the biggest grin on his face, because after months of what I imagine had been couch surfing, overnight buses and creepy truck drivers, this lucky son of a bitch has hit the jackpot.

The gang then jump in the chopper with their newest recruit sat in the front with his guitar in tow, like an excited kid, before they take off and from the video you can only see blue ocean and golden sands below.

But like all good things, sadly they have to come to and end, with the Avengers superhero telling his new mate: "Alright, Scotty, dream's over, back to the normal hitchhiker life of kombis and stuff mate, you're on."

According to new9.com.au Hildebrand later told Nova FM that he had no idea who Hemsworth was until they arrived at the helipad.

He said: "They're like 'ever flown in a helicopter Scotty?' and I couldn't believe it and that's when I was like 'who are you guys?

"Luke was like 'that's Chris Hemsworth, Thor' And I was like 'What? I couldn't believe it."

What we've learned from the video: hitchhiking is actually a very safe way to travel in a foreign country and Chris Hemsworth is a very nice man.

*Hitchhiking is actually not that safe, you probably shouldn't do it.
