John Wayne Bobbitt has recalled the 'nightmare' moment when he woke up to see that his penis had been chopped off with a kitchen knife.
The 51-year-old recalled the aftermath of the 1993 attack - which was carried out by his then-wife, Lorena Bobbitt - in a new interview with ABC News.
Bobbitt explained that he initially had to 'clear his thoughts' and 'apply pressure' to the area.
He added: "Then I went to wake my friend up to take me to the hospital. He was [screaming], as soon as he saw the blood everywhere, he was going crazy."
Bobbitt, a former Marine, and his pal got to the Prince William Hospital in Manassas, Virginia, in 10 minutes and at first medics thought the problem area was his wrist.

Bobbitt's plastic surgeon Dr. David Berman explained: "The emergency room physician comes in and looks at John's hands and wrists and says 'there's no cut there,' and of course John knew there was no cut there.
"And he [the doctor] goes 'where's all the blood coming from?' and John points down below."
Bobbitt, who was 26 at the time, said that the sheet covering his (lack of) manhood fell away and the doctor's 'jaw dropped'.

Lorena Bobbitt, an Ecuadorian immigrant, was 24 when the attack took place. According to ABC News, she fled their apartment with the penis and tossed it out of the car window into a field.
The severed penis was found after a police search and was placed into an ice-filled hotdog box. It was successfully reattached during nine-hour surgery.
Bobbitt went on to star in several porn films to show off his manhood.

Lorena Bobbitt claimed that her husband had repeatedly sexually and physically abused her.
She was charged with malicious wounding and claimed in court that she attacked John Bobbitt after he arrived at their apartment drunk and raped her.
Lorena was found not guilty by reason of temporary insanity and spent five weeks at a mental hospital for treatment and evaluation.
John Bobbitt was charged with marital sexual assault but was found not guilty after a separate trial.

During an interview with ABC News, Lorena explained: "I picked up the knife, I went back to the bedroom. I took the sheets off, I cut him. Everything was just fast.
"I never meant to hurt anybody, I never hurt anybody before."
The couple were married for six years and divorced in 1995.
