Melinda Messenger Gets Matched With Her Wedding Photographer On 'Celebrity First Dates'

The pair made the best of a very awkward situation

The producers of Channel 4's First Dates must have a great time pairing up potential couples. Sometimes they get the satisfaction of matching up a ludicrously compatible couple, other times they just seem to have a laugh setting up a date that is ridiculously flattering to one half, and ridiculously offensive to the other.

Occasionally, the daters have a connection or a shared past - which is of course no coincidence either.

On last night's Celebrity First Dates, presenter and former glamour model, Melinda Messenger, was left in an awkward predicament thanks to those friendly old producers.

When Fred Sirieix introduced Mr Average Joe Bloggs to the 47-year-old, he stood around sheepishly and Melinda replied with a nervous, 'hello!'.

Joe Bloggs, or Chris Harding as he is actually called, then replies 'Melinda!', evidently recognising her.

"Do you remember me?" he asks.

"Erm...... No?" she replies.

Mr Harding then reveals that he used to be senior photographer at OK! Magazine, adding: "So, I think I photographed your wedding."

"... That's awkward innit?" she replies, accurately.

But from there, rather than descending into a night of bitter reflections and uncomfortable pleasantries, the date actually went pretty well, with the couple proving quite compatible. So much so, it was revealed at the end of the programme they had been seeing each other for three months.

Melinda was married to Wayne Roberts for 14 years and they divorced in 2012. She then dated her ski coach on The Jump, but they split last November.

According to The Mirror, Melinda said: "I had never given up hope of finding love but I stopped looking for it.

"I thought I am fine as I am and I am happy as I am and when it happens then I am happy. It's only when I got to that point then sure enough, it happened."

Judging from the reaction on Twitter, it seems many people were routing for Melinda and were happy she found romance on the show.

One person said: "Awesome I like an happy ending. Well in Melinda and Chris"

Another said: "Think Melinda and her date are quite suited. There seems to be a nice underlying chemistry"

Another added: "Me and the Mrs Actually clapped at the end when Melinda and Chris were still seeing each other"

... While it was undeniably sweet, clapping the tele in your living room was obviously completely unnecessary.

If you missed it, you can watch it now on All 4.
