Gal Gadot's Salary For 'Wonder Woman' Was Surprisingly Low

Gal Gadot's Salary For 'Wonder Woman' Was Surprisingly Low

It pales in comparison when stood next to other Hollywood paycheques.

Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman is surpassing all expectations in the box office with audience approval sky-high and critical praise spreading like wildfire.

The DC superhero epic is being hailed as a significant step forward for feminism in cinema and has already smashed through the $500 million (£390 million) mark, with analysts predicting it will finish somewhere in the mid-$700 millions.

Taking all of that into account it may come as a bit of a surprise to learn that leading lady Gal Gadot only took home $300,000 (£230,000) for her staring roll. Sure, that's still a lot of money for mere mortals like you and I, but when stood next to other high-profile Hollywood salaries it pales in comparison

However, her figure is likely to rise somewhat due to box office bonuses and while the pay cheque may be comparatively small next to other blockbusters, for a superhero movie salary it's actually not that out of the ordinary.

Some of the Avengers cast took away as little (comparatively of course) as $200,000 (£150,000), while Chris Evans left his Captain America role with the same as Gadot in WW.

Of course, there are exceptions; Robert Downey Jr, for example, earned a staggering $50 million for The Avengers, while Chris Hemsworth bagged a cool $5.4 million for the sequel, despite only appearing on screen for 14 minutes.

The highest paid actors of 2016 highlight how low Gadot's Wonder Woman pay really is, they are as follows, according to Forbes Magazine:

  • Dwayne Johnson, $64m
  • Jackie Chan, $61m
  • Matt Damon, $55m
  • Tom Cruise, $53m
  • Johnny Depp, $48m
  • Jennifer Lawrence, $46m
  • Ben Affleck, $43m
  • Vin Diesel, $35m
  • Melissa McCarthy, $33m
  • Shah Rukh Khan, $33m

Other actors who fell into the top 30 included Julia Roberts, Mila Kunis, Brad Pitt and Adam Sandler, who all earned about $10m each.

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson more than doubled his income from 2015 and knocked Downey Jr from pole position.

Johnson reacted to the news that he was now the world's top earning actor with a characteristically humble Tweet:

"I started w/ $7 bucks. If I can overcome, so can you."

He added: "Waffle House on me!!"

Johnson is currently on the big screen in Baywatch, which has been slammed by critics even though audience approval has been relatively high.

He hit back at the reviews, claiming that they showed a 'big disconnect'.

He tweeted: 'Oh boy, critics had their venom & knives ready. Fans LOVE the movie. Huge positive scores. Big disconnect w/ critics & people. #Baywatch'.
