Former child-actor Macaulay Culkin has said that his father, Kit, 'mentally and physically' abused him.

Speaking on Marc Maron's WTF podcast Culkin, 37, said his dad's alleged abuse was what led to him quitting Hollywood.

Speaking on the podcast, he said: "My father was jealous of me. He made threats including, 'Do good or I'll hit you'.

"He was a bad man. He was abusive. Physically and mentally. I can show you all my scars if I wanted to. Everything he tried to do in life, I excelled at before I was 10 years old.

"Our 1994 divorce was 'one of the best things that's ever happened' as it led to me leaving the industry. I wanted to take a break for a while and eventually I was like, 'I'm done guys, hope you all made your money because there is no more coming from me'."

Culkin began acting when he was just four years old, and became a household name in 1990 when he starred as Kevin McAllister in Home Alone, as well as taking prominent roles in Uncle Buck and My Girl.

However, his last film role as a child was in 1994 when he stared in Richie Rich. He wouldn't return to our screens until 2003, when he starred in Party Monster, where he played drug-addled party promoter Michael Alig - quite a change from his previous roles, then.

Culkin famously 'divorced' his parents when he was 15. He sued his parents for over $17 million (£12.2 million) earnings during a custody dispute. It ended with his parents being removed as his legal guardians and losing control of Culkin's millions.

Culkin's dad Kit hasn't responded to the allegations, and is reported to live a reclusive life in Arizona. When approached by the Daily Mail last year, he told reports he 'doesn't consider Macaulay to be his son anymore'.

Speaking to the paper, an unnamed source close to the family, said: "As far as Macaulay is concerned, when Kit left them it was the best thing that ever happened.

"It won't be nice for Mac to hear Kit's comments about him no longer being a son but considering they've spent more time estranged than together, it's not a huge surprise."
