It seems like all the will he, won't he speculation is finally over after Daniel Craig announced he is going to dust off his licence to kill and play James Bond again.

Fans had been crying into their vodka martinis after it appeared Daniel's last outing as 007 was going to be 2015's Spectre.

However, after at least a year of rumours and gossip in the media about possible successors (Tom Hiddleston etc), the man who helped rejuvenate the Bond franchise has confirmed he is returning.

Speaking on Stephen Colbert's The Late Show on Tuesday night, Daniel said: "I have been quite cagey about it.

"I have been doing interviews all day and people have been asking me and I think I've been rather coy. But kind of felt like if I was going to speak the truth, I should speak truth to you."

Host Stephen then works his magic better than Bond interrogating an enemy, when he says: "We could use some good news here. Daniel Craig. Will you return as James Bond?"

Daniel didn't mess about, swiftly replying: "Yes."

Daniel said he had known for 'a couple of months' that he would be back and added: "We've been discussing it, we've just been trying to figure things out. I always wanted to, I needed a break."

The next Bond movie is scheduled for release in November 2018 and, although he is returning, Daniel has hinted that appearance will definitely be his last outing as the spy.

"I think this is it. I just want to go out on a high note and I can't wait," he said.

Daniel, who has played Bond in Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre, helped return the films to the big screen and has been a major hit with fans and the box office.

However, it had looked like Spectre would be his last after he announced he would rather self-harm than play the role again.

But Daniel will now be back and we can't wait. But who will play the villain and Bond's love interest?
