Taron Egerton Plans To Return As Eggsy In 'Kingsman' For One Final Time

It was recently announced that he wouldn't be returning to the third movie, but he doesn't think that's the end of Eggsy

Earlier this year fans began to get excited when it was revealed the blockbuster spy series, Kingsman, would be making a return for a third installment.

However, their hopes were quickly dashed when one of the film's main stars, Taron Egerton, announced he would not be reprising the role of streetwise thug-turned international man of mystery Eggsy. Oh no.

But dry those tears, we have good news for fans of the franchise, as Egerton has announced he still hopes to return to the role in the future - just not for another decade, that's all.

There are currently two new films planned - one a sequel to The Golden Circle, and another titled Kingsman: The Great Game, a prequel set in the early 1900s delving into the origins of the Kingsman agency - but it is the prequel that is expected to come next.

And for obvious reasons Eggsy won't be needed for that one.

But as well as the fact that his character wasn't around in the 1900s, part of the reason for the new Robin Hood star's hesitation with jumping back into the role so quickly, is due to the harsh reaction 2017's sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle received from critics.

Egerton says he wants to come back to the role, but not for a little while yet.

Speaking to Empire, Egerton said he was upset by the reviews and felt it deserved more.

He said: "I would like the third one to be better received than the second one, but admits there were some issues with it.

"I felt we got a bit of an unfair kicking if I'm totally honest. I think in some respects it was [difficult] because I just gave everything to it, and then it was so quickly torn down, that I think I did feel a bit of a sting.

"I think in some respects it probably wasn't quite as well put-together a film as the first one, but it certainly wasn't a bad film. And when we got this real kicking- I think what I would like to happen is for us to do a third one and for it to feel like a worthy third instalment to what has been a great part of my life."

But he says he's not done with the character completely, and wants to give fans one more film in a series that has changed his life.

Egerton said: "My dream for it would be that I would kind of hang up my suit for 10, 15 years and then come back and pass the mantle on.

"I think that would be fun. We'd have to take a step away from it for a while before we did that. For me that would be the perfect way to wrap up what has been a huge, huge part of my life, and something I will always be incredibly grateful to Matthew for, and will always be in his debt for."

He added: "So you never know, watch this space. Either way, Kingsman's going to survive, with or without me."

According to reports, Kingsman: The Great Game is due for release on November 8, 2019, with filming set for January.
