Undateables' Daniel Wakeford Is Celebrating With His Long-Term Girlfriend

The rockstar who has autism melted the hearts of the nation when he finally found love on the hit reality TV show

Daniel Wakeford melted hearts and had audiences in tears when he starred on the Channel 4 show The Undateables.

The prime-time show follows the lives of people who struggle to find love the conventional way, due things such as disabilities or conditions.

The 30-year-old has autism and has difficulties with his speech and understanding other people, but as a teenager Daniel found that he was able to overcome these through the power of songwriting.

In the now famous episode of The Undateables, he went on a date with Lily, and wooed her with a rendition of his song 'The Black of Lonely' and one year on they are still together and Daniel has released his first album. What a year.

Crowds flocked to his hometown of Brighton to catch a glimpse of the rock star as he launched the CD, titled 'That's How I See It', which he his currently touring around the country.

Speaking to Mirror Online, Daniel said he was over the moon to have a girlfriend.

He said: "Lily likes me on the tele, now she's being my girlfriend. It feels so lovely when I'm with her. It's been nearly a year now."

Over the past year, the 6ft 4inch star has been working hard in the recording studio but he says it was all worth it and is now loving life in the spotlight.

Daniel said: "It was so wonderful to my life. I was a little bit nervous, I used my powerful voice and my soft voice.

"Everything is really great when I'm being a famous star. I love meeting my fans."

Hundreds of thousands of people have been streaming his music online, with his song Playboy Girls amassing 145,000 streams on a music app.

Before locking eyes with Lily, Daniel had really struggled to find love and his mum, Carol, even set up a dating agency for people with learning difficulties to help him meet the one.

Carol, 60, told the Mirror that she and Daniel's dad, Barry, 69, are chuffed about their son's achievements.

She said: "We're just so proud of what Daniel has achieved with his music.

"I think back to when he was young and he was very shy, and now he's entertaining thousands of people who love him for who he is.

"It's so important too in changing society's perceptions of what people with learning disabilities can achieve."
