The custard cream is one of the foundations that British society has been built on, along with a good brew, polite queuing and the time-honoured inability to say how you really feel. Together, it all just works, so why fix what ain't broke?

Well, perhaps you'd be open to a bit of change if we told you one of Britain's best-loved biccies has had a VERY tasty-looking makeover, thanks to ASDA's Custard Cream Celebration Cake.

That's right, biscuit fans, a giant custard cream cake is the thing you never knew you desired - and, get this: it not only looks but apparently even tastes like the iconic treat.

The sponge cake comes filled with vanilla flavour buttercream and topped with soft icing, making it 'supersized and super scrummy'.

The cake apparently even tastes like biscuit.

It costs £8 and serves 16, which means each slice will only set you back 50p.

"This cake takes the biscuit," the online product description reads.

"Our spectacular sweet sponge, sandwiched with vanilla flavour buttercream and topped in soft icing - perfect with a cuppa!"

While some people left reviews to say it didn't quite stretch to 16 servings (I hear you, guys - looks like that's just one portion to me), most people said they would highly recommend the cake.

"Lovely cake," one person said. "Tastes just like a custard cream. So much fun and tastes amazing. Loads of buttercream and super top icing layer on top of that. Very sweet but that's how we like it."

Another person wrote: "Excellent value for money, very similar taste to a custard cream. This was the perfect cake for a small birthday gathering we had for my mum's birthday, my son loved it. Would highly recommend."

A third added: "A moist cake with a good amount of butter icing in the middle. It's a fun cake as I'm sure most people know someone who loves Custard Creams. I would recommend this cake."

Oooof. Just imagine a slice of that cake with a good cup of tea. That really is what dreams are made of - albeit super British ones.

Mind you, I reckon we could also do with a giant cake version of a chocolate digestive, seeing as it was voted your favourite biscuit last year.

With more than 11,000 votes, 52 percent of you reckon the chocolate digestive is the best, with the almighty bourbon coming in second place with 22 percent, and the humble HobNob in at third place with 21 percent.

Sod it, can't we just have all three?
