Bring on the purees, smears and crumbs!

We all love a bit of MasterChef in our lives, watching as dozens of chefs cook their way through canons of lamb, fondant potatoes, ballotines of chicken and quenelles of just about anything and everything. Fascinating stuff.

Over the years we've been given countless spin-offs, including international versions like MasterChef Australia, the star-studded Celebrity MasterChef and charity specials such as Comic Relief Does MasterChef. Oh, and Junior MasterChef, but no one cares about that one.

But the best one has to be MasterChef: The Professionals, which is where the big dogs come out to show us how it's all done - making all those deconstructed cheesecakes that the home cooks were busting out in their series mere child's play.

Well, now it's back! Just in time for us to get cosy on the sofa with a plate of the good, hearty fare that we know would get Gregg Wallace hot under the collar and making all those grunting noises.

Announcing its return on Twitter, MasterChef revealed that judges Marcus Wareing, Monica Galetti and ol' Wallace would be back on 6 November.

That means it'll be giving us some solid weekday viewing as we shiver our way into what will no doubt be a particularly Baltic winter, when a night in front of the telly is just what we want.

Upon reading the good news, one fan tweeted: "Great news can't wait! One of the best programmes on TV."

Another added: "Superb - I can't wait for the series to start!"

Someone else commented: "Thank the Lord, I was having Masterchef withdrawls!"

A fourth said: "This is my favourite. Looking forward to a good competition."

If I'm honest, I'm still bitter that we no longer get Michel Roux Jr, who was booted out in 2013 following all that stuff about his Albert Bartlett Rooster Potatoes partnership.

But it's okay, because we're still in the firm hands of Marcus and Monica. And Gregg, of course, who you can always rely on for a bit of slapstick eye-bulging.

Dust off that sous-vide machine and bring on the purees, smears and crumbs! I'm hyped.
