The offer opens at 10.30am on Monday 21 January and is available for five days.

January can be a bit of a tough one, living rooms have been stripped bare of their Christmas trees and fairy lights, the sausages no longer come wrapped in bacon and half of us are even off the booze. Oh, and we're all bloody SKINT, too. FFS.

That means any freebies are duly welcomed - including, perhaps above all else, a good old cheeseburger to see you through the day.

McDonald's will be helping the UK through the perils of January by dishing out free cheeseburgers for all. Well, anyone who's got the My McDonald's App.

All you have to do is download said app (available on both Google Play and the App store) and get on down to your nearest Maccy's restaurant. One cheeseburger per customer. No purchase necessary. Simples.

The offer opens at 10.30am on Monday 21 January, so just get that app downloaded, locked and loaded for free cheeseburger joy.

The app, which enables customers to order, customise and pay for meals before arriving at the restaurant, cleverly recognises when you're within 100m of the restaurant and sends your order to the kitchen - meaning you can beat the queues, grab and go.

Oh, and better still, this gift isn't just for today, the offer is running for five days, giving us all a chance to well and truly kick January's arse.

Recently the fast food giant hit headlines when it launched its first ever vegetarian Happy Meal, following research that found one third (33 percent) of McDonald's customers think it's important that they start including more meat-free meals into their families' diets.

The new Happy Meal, which costs £2.49, contains a veggie wrap with a red pesto goujon, tomato ketchup and shredded lettuce, all tucked into a soft, toasted tortilla.

McDonald's has also released a new grown-up version of the wrap - the Spicy Veggie Wrap.

McDonald's also released a new grown-up version of the wrap - the Spicy Veggie Wrap - which is now available on the permanent menu for £2.99 and features a dressing of spicy relish with tomato, lettuce and red onion.

These will join the newly-improved Vegetable Deluxe, while the Spicy Veggie Wrap also replaces the existing Spicy Vegetable Deluxe.

Duncan Cruttenden, menu director at McDonald's UK&I, added: "Our commitment is to offer great food, great choice and a great experience to our customers and we are constantly asking them how we can evolve and improve.

"We are really thrilled to be able to give our customers this new choice with the addition of the Spicy Vegetarian Wrap and our first Vegetarian Happy Meal."
