New Cooking Show ‘The Final Table’ Has Been Added To Netflix

Its release rounds off a great year for food programmes on Netflix

It's been a good year for food programmes on Netflix, which has been busy pumping its energy (and money) into the likes of David Chang's Ugly Delicious, amateur baking comps Nailed It! and Sugar Rush, food and travel show Somebody Feed Phil, yet another round of Chef's Table and the delightful Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat, to name just a few.

The latest is The Final Table, a fast-paced, global cooking competition that sees teams of chefs battle it out to 'impress some of the toughest palates as they whip up iconic dishes from around the world'.

"When Netflix came to us and said, 'Bring us a cooking show that you've never seen before,' obviously, that's a really tall order," said veteran TV producer Yasmin Shackleton (who created The Final Table along with her colleague Robin Ashbrook), according to Eater.

"We have these cameras that you normally see on the side of football fields that race up and down, and we literally slung them on the ceiling and used them to shoot beautiful overhead shots, which is kind of like a signature look of the show," Shackleton added.

"We're just trying to push everything and create a visual feast."

Ashbrook added: "It would be factually correct to say, that in terms of the size and the scale, it is the biggest culinary show in a studio that has ever been made."

The Final Table bills itself as a fast-paced, global cooking competition.

Viewers on Twitter already seem fairly sold, despite some of the less-than-glowing reviews the show has received - including the Guardian's Lucy Mangan, who referred to it as insanely frustrating and unrewarding'.

One person tweeted: "The Final Table is my new favorite thing on Netflix."

Another wrote: "If you love Chopped or like...Top Chef you should probably be watching The Final Table on Netflix. Just sayin'."

A third added: "Netflix's The Final Table has got to be one of the best culinary battle shows right now!"

Others, meanwhile, have commented on the show's lack of female or ethnic minority contestants, with one tweeting: "I love The Final Table on Netflix - very inspiring. However there's not enough women in the competition. And not enough black people. There was literally one Jamaican man. Plus they had 3 white men judge the US segment, which was super odd to me."
