Strawberry Jaffa Cakes Are Back And People Are Divided

They're going to cost you a little bit more, though

It's the news some of you had been hoping for - Strawberry Jaffa Cakes are back. No, I didn't know they'd gone away either, but here we are.

Since they were released 92 years ago, the traditional orange-flavoured cakes have become a national institution, but now supermarket giant Tesco is flogging their strawberry counterparts.

According to reports, the choc treats originally went on sale in the store last year for 99p but a price hike has seen them bumped up to a whole £1.

Fans of the strawberry version have taken to social media to share their jubilation at the news.

One person wrote on Twitter: "Mmm who's tried @McVities strawberry Jaffa cakes because they taste a bit like trifle."

Another enthusiastic shopper posted: "What have we here? Strawberry Jaffa cakes!! Oh my word!!"

"Let's just say they didn't last long!! Limited edition so don't miss out," added another.

The original orange flavour was created more than 90 years ago and has become a national institution.

Not everyone was so impressed with the move, however - quite frankly, some were utterly disgusted by the prospect of chowing down on this peculiar flavour.

One hater said: "It's a no from me."

While another wrote: "Wtf! I've just opened a pack of strawberry Jaffa cakes. What travesty?"

One bemused customer simply asked: "@McVities how can a Jaffa cake be strawberry flavoured?"

Fair point, I guess.

But if you prefer your Jaffa Cakes as God intended them - orange, of course - then fear not, we have just the thing for you.

Last month it was revealed that Home Bargains had begun flogging enormous boxes of Jaffa Cakes for just £3.99.

The good news was shared online when a photograph of the 100-cake boxes was posted in a Facebook group called Dansway Deals UK.

Unsurprisingly, people got very excited.

One person wrote: "Would eat the whole box in 2 minutes."

Another said: "I wouldn't dare buy them!!!! too much temptation."

While a third added: "I've got records to beat."

"Lol they wouldn't last long and no good for diet," wrote another.

According to reports, normal-sized packs usually retail for £1 each, which means savvy shoppers quick enough to take up the store on its offer could save more than £2 by picking up the mega pack.

Bit much for your paltry appetite? Fear not, there's more good news - Iceland is selling slightly smaller packs of 39 Jaffa Cakes for £1.75, which works out at just 4p per cake.

Let's not fight, guys, the world's big enough for two flavours - instead let's unite against our common enemy: lemon and lime flavour.
