Christmas arrived late for a family over in Nebraska as their relative has made a miraculous recovery - after his life support was removed.

Father-of-four T. Scott Marr was rushed to Methodist Hospital in Omaha on 12 December after he was found lying in his bed, unresponsive but still breathing.

Straight away the doctors put the 61-year-old on a breathing machine in intensive care, believing him to have suffered a stroke. Sadly for Scott and his family, his situation didn't appear to improve and doctors feared he was on his way to 'brain death' - an unthinkable outcome for everyone involved.

Dr. Rebecca Runge, who works at the hospital, told KMTV: "We were worried in this case that this was not a reversible process and that it was going to proceed to brain death."

It's at this point the heart-wrenching decision to switch off his breathing machine was made. His daughter Preston explained: "He had always said, 'I never want you guys to see me lying in a hospital bed, lying in a nursing home'.

"They told us he was on his way to brain death, so we said our goodbyes before extubating him, all the monitors were shut off and we waited by his side."

The 'Miracle Man' made an incredible recovery after support was withdrawn.

After leaving the hospital the following day, the relatives started making arrangements for a funeral service. But it turned out Scott wasn't ready to give up on life just yet.

Incredibly, the former sports announcer carried on breathing even after the life support machine was switched off and continued to do so when his children returned to the hospital on 14 December to see their dad.

"When we got up there, I went in just to talk to him, like I have been this whole time, and said, 'Hi Dad,'" recalled Preston. "He smiled at me, and I literally thought I was dreaming. It was the craziest moment ever.

"I asked him to move his thumbs, and he slowly moved his thumbs, and I asked him to wiggle his toes, and he wiggled all his toes really slightly.

"I literally had to rub my eyes to make sure it was actually happening."

He is now back home and recovering from his ordeal.

Turns out, Scott didn't have a stroke at all, but instead was suffering from a condition called Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome which is likely caused by high blood pressure.

Now he's been released from hospital and is on the way to a full recovery thanks to the aid of physical therapy and his kids by his side.

It's no surprise that the family are overjoyed at the unexpected turnaround, leading them to dub their pops the 'miracle man'. Speaking of which, Scott himself is thanking the man upstairs for giving him a second chance at life.

He said: "I'm not an extremely religious person. I don't go to church every Sunday, but I do believe in God. I believe with all my heart. And now this is just proof for me that everything I've ever heard is true.

"That he loves me. That he's right there for me. It was pretty much a miracle."
