A bloke has won a national award after spending £2,000 - as well as using up all of his favours with his mates - to turn his attic into the ultimate man cave. Watch a video of it here:

Football fanatic Graeme Strachan and his friends installed a three-pump bar, widescreen TVs, and a darts board in the room, which he has dedicated to his favourite footy team, Aberdeen FC.

The room has now been named Games Room Of The Year, defeating hundreds of other entries from around the UK.

Strachan said: "I'm absolutely overwhelmed and still in shock. It's fair to say it's one of the best phone calls I've ever received."

"A friend called me about the competition while I was on holiday in Turkey as he'd seen it on social media. He told me I should put my games room forward as he thought I was in with a great chance of winning.

"It's a unique setup and is finished to a really high standard thanks to the input of my mates, none of whom support Aberdeen by the way.

"It's always being used though, as my friends love it. And judging by the result of the vote, so does the public."

Whilst he may find himself having to return favours for his mates for the rest of his life, the competition, run by Home Leisure Direct, has netted Graeme a £3,000 prize that will more than cover the cost of the room.

Other entrants included a Las Vegas themed bar in Northern Ireland and a retro gaming arcade in Dorset.

Andy Beresford, of Home Leisure Direct said: "What we love about Games Room of the Year is that it gives people with a real passion the opportunity to win.

"It's not about throwing money at your games room.

"Graeme has demonstrated that people with a limited budget can develop a fantastic space to relax in and it's clearly struck a chord with the voters.

"He was the standout winner in the end."

While there's no doubt winning the prize is a fantastic accolade, I can't help but feel a bit sorry for him. At the end of the day, he still has to watch Aberdeen every week and nobody deserves that.
