The end of a relationship can be awful and painful to go through - sometimes it can even make you cynical about other people's relationships, but this wasn't the case for one ex-bride-to-be who turned her heartbreak into an amazing gift to another couple.

Just a week before her big day Kolbie Sanders called off her engagement and decided to offer the use of her $3,500 (£2,700) venue to a couple she'd never met.

The 24-year-old, from Texas, had only 24 hours to find a couple prepared to get married at Belle Vue wedding venue so she took her story to social media and eventually she had hundreds of couples desperate to be the ones to win the venue.

After somehow managing to narrow the list down to 45, she picked the hopeful bride-to-be Halie Hipsher out of a hat.

The 22-year-old's story really stood out to Kolbie - Halie's grandfather, Edwin, is currently suffering from pancreatic cancer and doesn't have long left to live.

Now Halie and her husband-to-be, 24-year-old Matthew Jones, also from Texas, will be able to get married in the presence of not only their seven-month-old baby, but Halie's grandfather too.

Halie said: "As he is nearing the closing of his chapter, this donation will put us a year ahead of schedule and he will be able to attend."

So what happened to Kolbie? Why the cancellation? Fortunately there was no grand tragedy - she called off her engagement to her fiancé Skylar Cotton after they simply 'grew apart'.

She said: "There was no scandal. We fell out of love and it didn't feel right to get married. We were together for four years and engaged for one and a half years but we grew apart. I woke up one day and realised I didn't want to marry him. We had both lost passion for one another."

Both Skylar and Kolbie were on board with donating the venue to another couple to enjoy on their big day.

They specifically opened the option up to couples who couldn't really afford a big fancy venue - and soon enough the generosity of the no-longer-engaged couple was matched by a local photographer, caterer, florist, hair stylist and makeup artist who all offered up their services to the chosen couple.

The winning bride-to-be, Halie, said: "Thank you. I can't say that enough. I'll probably be saying it 20,000 times."

Halie and Matthew are set to get married on 20 October and Kolbie will be a guest of honour for their big day. Congratulations!
