Manufacturer Warns About The Dangers Of Taking Your Sex Toys Abroad

Carvaka has warned its customers not to take sex toys to places where they're banned - which seems obvious, but apparently not to everyone

Sometimes there are things that common sense should be able to tell you. Don't put your hand inside a toaster when it's on. Don't eat meat that's green and smells like the inside of a morgue. Don't try to get out of a speeding car.

And here's another one to add to the list - don't bring sex toys to places that have a stricter moral (and legal) code about these things than you're used to at home.

It seems some people need these things spelled out for them, however, because sex toy maker Carvaka has issued a warning on its website, telling customers that they should check out the law in the country they're travelling to before packing any sex toys in their suitcase.

The message reads: "We know how much people get attached to their sex toys and so when it comes to heading off on holidays, it can be difficult to think about a week or even a fortnight away from them.

"However, with a number of countries imposing outright bans on vibrators and dildos, it's important that people are informed before they travel in order to prevent any issues at the point of entry to the country."

The Maldives, for example, might be a beautiful destination perfect for honeymooners to sip cocktails during the day and get their kink on at night, but pornography is banned there, and dildos and the like come under that bracket.

And the punishments are harsh - the Daily Star reported that a local man, Musthafa Hussein, was jailed for six months for possessing them.

Sex toys are also off-limits in Malaysia, and according to the country's penal code, possession of 'any obscene objects whatsoever' can lead to a fine and imprisonment for up to three years.

Elsewhere, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates will both seize your sex toys if you're caught carrying them into the country, and Thai authorities count them as 'obscene objects' which are on the country's list of prohibited items.

And neither Vietnam nor India allow you to bring sex toys into their countries, though in the former, authorities will at least hold them for you until you leave the country. Awkward.

Speaking to Sun Online Travel, a spokesman for Carvaka said: "It's important to respect other countries' laws to prevent any issues with the authorities."

Obvious, perhaps, but definitely worth keeping in mind.
