Shocking Footage Shows Planes Coming Into Land During Storm Diana

A shocking clip shows planes being blown about by Storm Diana as they attempt to land at a UK airport.

As you may have seen, the UK has been enduring a bit of bad weather lately, in the form of Storm Diana, which has brought blustery winds and buckets of rain to some areas.

In the footage, pilots flying planes from BMI, EasyJet, Ryanair and Emirates can be seen flying into Newcastle Airport during strong winds.

Twenty-year-old Jonathan Winton filmed the planes as they were battered by 40mph winds thanks to the ongoing storm.

Jonathan, a gardener from Alnwick, Northumberland, said: "The winds didn't feel particularly strong at first but as we got a bit higher up they suddenly hit.

"I'm a huge aviation fan so for me it was incredible to watch, but for those with a fear of flying it must have been pretty hair-raising."

Earlier this week, the Met Office issued a warning over the storm, with some areas set to be hit by 80mph winds, heavy rainfall and disruptions to travel.

However, despite the tough flying conditions, a spokesperson for Newcastle International Airport confirmed that there were no cancellations or delays as a result of Storm Diana. So a massive well done to all the pilots who braved it during the horrible weather.

Fortunately for plane passengers, pilots are trained to fly in such tough conditions and this isn't the first time we've seen incredible footage of such incidents.

Just last month, terrifying footage filmed during Storm Callum showed a pilot from TUI Airways landing a Boeing 757-200 at Bristol Airport while being hit with hurricane-strength winds.

Sharing the shocking clip online, YouTuber MrAviationGuy wrote: "Strong winds blowing directly across the runway at Bristol Airport on the 12th October 2018 due to Storm Callum caused this TUI Airways Boeing 757-200 aircraft to come in nearly sideways.

"Aircraft need to compensate for the crosswind otherwise they will be blown off course, they do this by pointing their nose into the direction the wind is coming from, demonstrated perfectly by this crew.

"It is always fascinating to watch planes landing in strong crosswinds; the power of mother nature vs the skill and professionalism of the brilliant airline pilots."
