'The Real Reason' Behind David Beckham's Knighthood Snub Revealed

'The Real Reason' Behind David Beckham's Knighthood Snub Revealed

That makes a lot of sense.

Unless you've been living under a rock, you'll be aware of the recent drama regarding David Beckham and his leaked emails.

Yeah, it's not quite the same outcry as when it happened to Hillary Clinton, but it's still enough to shock us.

DAVID BECKHAM IS A PERSON WITH FEELINGS. Shocking, right?! I mean, he was angry when he didn't get a knighthood despite the fact that bookies were so convinced he was going to get one that they stopped taking bets two weeks before the list was released in 2013. To be completely fair, I'd be pissed off too.

Well, now the real reason behind his snub seems to have been revealed.

According to the Mirror, Whitehall honours chiefs have said that it's all to do with his personal tax affairs. Sources inside the committee told the paper that he'd been given a 'red flag' by HM Revenue and Customs at the time.

They said that although there was 'no suggestion that any laws had been broken', the warning was enough to drive his knighthood dreams to a halt.

"For anybody who is being considered for an honour, we got advice on the reputational risk on relation to their tax affairs," the source claimed, "It is ranked red, amber and green. And if it is red, the general rule is you do not give them an honour."

They added: "His agent was aware of the issue holding it up, but you have got to have rules. And the general view of the committee was that people in the 'red' category do not get an honour."

Labour and Lib Dem MPs were very concerned at the suggestion that officials had discussed Beckham's tax affairs with his agent.

Lib Dem MP John Pugh came up with a fantastic reference that is possibly one of the best movie nods of all time: "No-one should be above the law and everyone should pay everything they owe, but we shouldn't create a new 'bend it for Beckham rule' for certain people."

I bet he patted himself on the back after coming up with that one.

He added: "All the charity work David has done, much of which is below the radar is more than enough for a major honour. The Tories hand gongs out to much less deserving people."

In case you didn't see, the emails were released by Football Leaks (which is bit like Wiki Leaks for footy) and appeared to show David raging at not being offered a knighthood.

In one of the emails, which he sent to his PR man Simon Oliveria, Becks fumes: "Katherine Jenkins OBE for what? Singing at the rugby and going to see the troops plus taking coke. Fucking joke." Katherine has previously admitted to taking drugs in the past, including cocaine.

In another email David allegedly goes in on the honours committee saying: "They're a bunch of c*nts I expected nothing less. It's a disgrace to be honest and if I was American I would of got something like this 10 years ago."

What do you reckon, does he deserve one or na?
