BT TV And Sport Prices Set To Rise By £48 A Year Affecting Millions Of Customers

Football fans will get another price hike this summer - but you can cancel your BT TV and Sport contract for free.

Thanks to a massive increase in ticket prices, it's simply impossible for many fans to go and watch their favourite football or sports team play live. Well, thanks to BT preparing to hike up their prices, it could be even harder to watch them from the comfort of their sofas too.

From the 28th July, millions of BT customers could see an extra £48 a year vanish from their bank accounts as part of their existing package - on top of the fees they already pay now.

BT currently owns the exclusive rights to the Champions League, which means you're going to have to fork out even more if you want to watch the pinnacle of club football. Manchester Utd fans will have to pay that little bit extra to watch their team battle it out on Thursday nights in the Europa League too.

It's not just football fans that are going to suffer though. As well as the Champions League and Europa League, BT Sport owns the rights to 52 Premier League games, European and Premiership Rugby Union, UFC fights and more.

A BT spokesperson said: "We're contacting some of our BT TV and BT Sport customers to let them know of some changes to their pricing from the July 28.

"Some customers will see no changes at all and we believe we continue to provide unrivalled value for money when it comes to TV and sport content our customers love.

"Next season will be the biggest yet for BT Sport and customers will have access to live and exclusive UEFA Champions League and Europa League matches and highlights, 52 Premier League games - ten extra Premier League games, all European and Premiership Rugby Union matches, UFC, unmissable world title boxing, cricket, tennis, MotoGP and much more."

The decision for a price rise comes not long after three men were controversially jailed for 17 years for illegally broadcasting matches - with many fans arguing that they have to turn to unlawful means to follow their favourite sport.

Many people have taken to social media to complain.

If you are one of the customers who have received an email about the price hike, you'll be happy to hear that you can cancel your BT TV and BT Sport contracts penalty free - but you'll have to ring up to do so.

It's worth mentioning that this is the second time BT have put their price up in 2019, and with Amazon about to storm into the football rights market next season, it could end up being a bigger battle for viewers than all about chasing silverware.
